BSIS maintains a public online license search that allows anyone to look up a security guard, PPO, alarm company, or private investigator license by number or name and confirm its status, expiration date, and any recorded disciplinary history. It is one of the simplest tools available for verifying a vendor's claims.
Before signing or renewing a contract, a Sacramento property manager or HOA board can use this tool to confirm both the company's PPO license and, ideally, a sample of the individual guard registrations assigned to the property. This takes only a few minutes and requires no special access.
The lookup tool also shows whether a license is expired, suspended, or revoked, information that will not necessarily appear on a company's own website or marketing materials. Making license verification a standard step in vendor selection and periodic contract review is a low-cost way to reduce risk.
Because license numbers can occasionally be mistyped or misrepresented, cross-checking the legal business name alongside the number provides an added layer of confidence that the verification is accurate.
