Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is a set of physical-design principles developed by criminologists and refined for decades by planners, architects, and law enforcement. The core idea: how a property is lit, landscaped, laid out, and maintained changes how much opportunity it offers for crime, independent of any guard or camera.
