An access credential is the fob, card, mobile pass, or PIN code an access-control system uses to identify a specific authorized person or unit and grant entry, generating a log of who entered where and when.
Credential systems are only as secure as their management: shared codes, unreturned fobs from former residents or employees, and un-audited access lists are common ways an otherwise solid access-control system degrades over time.
Periodic audits of who holds active credentials, paired with prompt deactivation when someone moves out or an employee leaves, are standard practice recommended alongside any access-control installation.
