Perimeter and access
- One controlled entrance during work hours; everything else locked.
- Signed visitor and delivery log — it is your evidence trail after a loss.
- Fence fabric inspection weekly; thieves cut and re-wire a flap and return days later.
- Lighting on the material lay-down and equipment yard, not just the trailer.
What actually gets stolen
- Copper wire and pipe, appliances staged for install, generators, compressors, catalytic converters.
- Serial-number every tool and photograph equipment before it is staged.
- Stage deliveries as late as the schedule allows — inventory sitting on site is inventory at risk.
- Weekend and holiday coverage is where the money is saved.
Hot work and fire watch
Welding, cutting, and roofing torch work generally require a fire watch during the work and for a period afterward, with extinguishers staged and a permit. Confirm the required watch duration with your local fire authority and the project's hot-work permit.
Trespass and liability
- An unsecured site with an attractive hazard is a liability event waiting to happen, especially with minors.
- Post trespass notices properly so law enforcement can act.
- Document every contact with photos and times — that log is what an insurer and an attorney will ask for.
- Excavations, open shafts, and stair openings get physical covers, not caution tape, at end of day.
