What happened
Officers responded to a vandalism report in an HOA community in Natomas. The garage was tagged with racial slurs, and every door on the home was standing wide open.
That combination reads as an active intruder, not a tagging. Officers called for backup before entry and cleared the residence room by room. Partway through the clear they heard a voice — which, for a moment, they took for a suspect.
It was the homeowner: an elderly woman, asleep in her bedroom, while her home had been ransacked around her by a disgruntled caretaker. Framed portraits of her grandchildren had been sprayed over.
